The Snapper Investigates

After reviewing the Film "The Dancer Upstairs," the Snapper got a little more interested in the South American situation and begin doing a little research into some idiosyncrasies he noticed involving staff behavior and the some of the movements and uprisings taking place in the Andes. His investigation led him on a junket through various banana republics, rain forests, pristine beaches, and washboarded back roads until he ran into some indigenous folks who recognized some of the photos he had been showing around. He now thinks he has caught a scent of some interesting connections and coincidences concerning some of his fellow Goliard staffers and the on again off again revolution going on up in the high altitudes of the Southern continent.

First off, he uncovered that around the time the Movie Man arrived on the local scene and began spending most of his waking hours in darkened movie houses and smoking cigars under the moonlit desert sky, the leader of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) "President Gonzalo" (actually Dr. Ruben Abimal Guzman Reinoso) was captured and subsequently disappeared from public view. No one has seen the communist leader since that day which was right around the time when we first saw the Movie Man. Compare the countenances of the two and draw your own conclusions.

It is also now public knowledge that the Atwater's are currently spending time in exile in the hills of Peru and were last seen somewhere near Cuzco. Their exact whereabouts are currently unknown of course but if memory serves, Mrs. Atwater has admitted to spending a significant amount of time in Peru during the formative years of the revolution and it was at some undisclosed location high in the Andes that Mr. Atwater is said to have proposed to the now Mrs. Atwater. Readers of this space will also recall that the Atwaters and the Movie Man were spotted over a year ago an some type of political forum at an undisclosed courtyard in the Sonoran Desert. Some believe that the seemingly strange bedfellow connection between the Movie Man  and the Atwaters may have been cultivated years earlier in a remote village high in the Andes amongst the Llamas and Alpacas. It has also been widely circulated that the Movie Man was present at the Atwater's wedding even though he is on record as saying he would not attend a wedding or a funeral unless it was his own. This ongoing love triangle remains a mystery to many at the Goliard just as it remains a source of intrigue to our readers which is why we have dispatched our one and only investigative reporter into the wilds of South America to look into the matter. This new development will keep him away from his original assignment which was to tail the new Bookwoman and see that she is not, in fact, the old Bookwoman in disguise or even perhaps another editor in drag. Whatever the case, that story will have to wait while the Snapper follows the shining path to truth. We'll let you know what he finds.
