Ben Stiller is
David Starsky and Owen
Wilson is Ken Hutchison in this remake of the 70's cop show.
That was all we needed to hear when the movie came out to know that
we would stop in and see the film no matter what critics had to say
about it. We didn't end up reading any reviews as it turned out but
caught the movie all the same the other night. Our review is as
follows: "Ben
Stiller is David Starsky and Owen
Wilson is Ken Hutchison in this remake of the 70's cop
show."
The old movieman reported that he thought the film was hilarious due
to all the seventies references but other than the soundtrack and
some phrases like "Sit on it!" and a disco dance scene, we
didn't really notice all that much nostalgia. Snoop
Dogg plays Huggy Bear with appropriate flair and some ex playboy
bunnies work themselves into the plot a couple times. Vince Vaughn
and Will Ferrell complete the "Old School" feel by playing
some of Bay City's criminal element.
It is not a terrible film and whether a person thinks fondly of the
seventies or not there are several chuckles at the antics of Stiller
and Wilson, who are basically playing the same people they were in
the last movies we saw them in The Big Bounce and
Along Came Polly. Nothing special definitely but worth seeing if you get a
hankering to see Gran Torino's and other such vehicles race through
the streets.
