The Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood

       or

The MM - "Southern Belles rant and rave about love and life in the mother of all chick flicks. The main focus of this film is the mother-daughter relationship between Ellen Burstyn and Sandra Bullock (an actress loathed, unlinked and unrecognized by the Goliard, thus the supine businessman above), and why this relationship is so turbulent even though they are very close. To understand their relationship we are told their life stories through a series of flashbacks. The Ya Yas are a life long group of four friends who appear throughout the film. The film's male roles are not offensive, but men are portrayed as total devotees with unlimited patience and tolerance. The female characters are interesting and complex and several actresses (Ashley Judd, Ellen Burstyn, Fionnula Flanagan, Maggie Smith) give good performances but most of the women in this movie could be guests on Jenny Jones."
