The Hours

The MM - "This two hour long movie that flows like a meandering estrogen river, chronicles a day in the parallel lives of three women in different cities, from different generations. Set in 1923 England, 1951 Los Angeles, and 2001 New York City, this real life, female centered drama features absolutely brilliant performances by its three leads Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and  Meryl Streep and gets solid support form their male co-stars John C. Reilly and Ed Harris. Director Stephen Daldry presents all three stories simultaneously using a a veritable plethora of ingenious segues to tie the trilogies together. But no matter how good the acting, or how smooth the transitions, this film moves slower than a three toed sloth on a lazy summer day. Classical themes, literary significance, superior technical and artistic achievement have garnered this film an avalanche of well deserved critical acclaim. However, carriers of the "y" chromosome may find that their voices are an octave higher after viewing this tediously paced quintessential chick flick.
