The Bourne Identity

The MM - "Matt Damon suffers from amnesia as the result of two superficial bullet wounds in the back. After being found floating in the Mediterranean Sea, Matt is revived and decides to return to France to find his true identity (hence the name) Even though he can't remember who he is, he does retain the ability to beat up dozens of people at a time with his bare hands. On the road to self realization, Matt crosses paths with a German student (Franka Potente->), the CIA (who's Paris operations are headed up by a twenty one year old Julia Stiles caution: link may contain fake nudity)  and the Paris police. The police encounter includes a lengthy car chase with Matt at the wheel of a vehicle that probably would top out at 35 mph. Interesting premise. Illogical and superficial plot. Hollywood ending. Average movie

Editor's Note - "The MM again suffers from his refusal to ever read anything although not in the way one might think. The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum is one of the better books in its genre and typically, when a movie is made from a book you enjoyed you end up disappointed with the film. In this case, having read the book helped us understand some of the unexplained parts of the movie and possibly feel more sympathetic to Damon's character and how it must feel to slowly realize you are a highly trained operative but not know whether you were originally siding with the good or bad guys. Given that, the film is pretty good summer entertainment and Franka and Matt have a decent chemistry onscreen.
