Road to Perdition

The MM - "Perennial good guy Tom Hanks plays an Irish Mafia hit man, but his new hard boiled persona only runs skin deep. Hanks is honest, hard working, a loving husband and father, and exhibits unfailing loyalty to godfather Paul Newman. Not everybody is as trustworthy as Hanks however. Newman's son is skimming money and eliminating any family member who might oppose or implicate him. Newman's son decides that Hanks, his wife (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and family are expendable after Hank's son accidentally witnesses a hit. In order to save their lives, Hanks and his son must take to the road. Jude Law is the contract killer hired to pursue them. This movie is beautifully photographed. Suspense and drama are combined with thematic references to fatherhood and spirituality. The film's main problem is that its plot is either totally predictable or completely illogical and this problem runs the length of the film. Road to Perdition has many good (possible Oscar worthy) components. However, the result is less than a sum of its parts."
