Red Dragon

The MM - "The prequel to Silence of the Lambs and remake of Manhunter stars Edward Norton as the retired FBI agent rehired by Harvey Keitel to catch the demonic and homicidal Red Dragon played by Ralph Fiennes. Emily Watson and Mary-Louise Parker are solid in their supporting roles as Fiennes girlfriend and Norton's wife respectively. Red Dragon suffers from predictability, some small gaffs in logic and some down time from excessive dialog; however, no matter what, the public will view this film as another movie about Hannibal Lector. Anthony Hopkins reprises his infamous role with the same edginess and intensity that made him an international star, but Hopkins spends very little time on screen outside of the prison visitation scenes. If just the fact that Hannibal Lector is in the movie makes you want to see it then by all means indulge. Otherwise, be aware that Red Dragon is not in the same category as Silence of the Lambs.

Ed's note - Not sure we agree on the predictability part but if its a remake of a recent movie that you've seen or an adaptation of a book you've just read we can see why it would seem so. If predictable means you know what's going to happen in the end or what's around the next corner then many good movies are so. It's hard to be unpredictable with remakes.
