Possession

The MM - "Director Neil LaBute, notorious for his bleak and sometimes misogynistic themes, shifts gears and delivers a romantic drama that tells the story of two love affairs connected in time by the passion for literature. Aaron Eckhart plays an American graduate student who stumbles across a letter that suggests that two famous 19th century British writers, who scholars thought had never met, were lovers. Eckhart enlist the help of Gwyneth Paltrow to prove the letters authenticity and the relationship that develops between Eckhart and Paltrow begins to parallel the relationship between the Victorian era writers played by Jeremy Northam and Jennifer Ehle. Slow, wordy, sentimental, and saturated with academia keep this well acted, well written, sophisticated, and personable film from having a more universal appeal."
