Mr. Deeds

The MM - "Adam Sandler plays the same old Adam Sandler in this sophomoric remake of the Academy Award winning Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936). Sandler kills two birds with one stone as he insults the classic film and your intelligence by playing a pizza shop owner in rural New Hampshire who inherits forty billion dollars. Sandler delivers nothing new and nothing funny as he promotes immature behavior, destruction of private property, and physical violence. Sandler makes one mistake in his attempt to make this movie as horrible as Little Nicky. He hires John Turturro. In a movie where most of the cast isn't acting at all, Turturro shines as the sneaky but loyal butler. That's where the good news ends. Winona Ryder and Sandler have absolutely no chemistry and Peter Gallagher looks more like Snydley Whiplash than a corporate CEO. Sandler fans will tell you that this is a funny movie but unless you are already a member of their club don't waste your money just to find out they're wrong.
