Insomnia

The MM - "Al Pacino at his weathered best and Robin Williams, in his new found niche as deranged antagonist, star in this remake of the 1997 Scandinavian suspense thriller. Pacino plays a LA policeman sent to Alaska to help the local constables solve a shocking murder mystery. Pacino's plate is full as he deals with trying to cover up a crime of his own, an Internal Affairs investigation, a murder suspect who knows too much about the skeletons in his closet, and sleep deprivation due to his inability to adjust to the midnight sun. Intense, dark and edgy, this well acted and beautifully photographed drama is another look by director Christopher Nolan into the dark recesses of the human psyche."

Ed's Note - This movie is similar to Nolan's other offering "Memento" in that the viewers actually feel as if they are experiencing the character's afflictions. In this case, one leaves the theater feeling a tired, edgy irritability i.e. the effects of insomnia. Not sure if this is intended or not. If so, we appreciate the genius but suggest that Nolan try is hand at comedy or an erotic thriller sometime soon. We will have to rent Nolan's first film Following and monitor closely if we get up from the couch with the sensation of being stalked.
