Gangs of New York

The MM - "Martin Scorsese takes us inside the horrific living conditions of the "five points" district of Manhattan, New York during the 1860's. Scorsese again shows his miraculous ability to make you feel like you are in the middle of an intense situation while you sit in an air conditioned theatre in a cushioned rocking chair. Scorsese's trademark gritty style along with an Oscar caliber performance by Daniel Day Lewis makes "Gangs of New York" a high impact film. However, a weak performance by Leonardo DiCaprio (especially opposite Lewis), a totally miscast Cameron Diaz, and a running time that is about forty minutes too long makes Gangs of New York interesting but lengthy and uneven."
