chronicles the birth of skateboarding as a sport. This enthusiastic
look at a slice of American pop culture is done through a
combination of current footage, interviews, news print articles,
still photos, and 8mm home movies. Sean Penn narrates but this is
not a Hollywood production. This is a movie by skaters about
skaters. Dogtown
and Z-Boys is very rough around the edges and somewhat
repetitive but provides a very interesting and insightful look at
the innocent birth of a current national phenomenon by a bunch of
rag-tag Southern California kids who "just wanted to skate
man." "
