Confessions
of a Dangerous Mind

The MM - "George
Clooney makes a formidable directorial debut and asks you to
consider the possibility that eccentric game show creator Chuck
Barris was also a hit man for the CIA. Sam
Rockwell shines as the enigmatic Barris while the film
chronicles the bushy haired dreamer with the Napoleonic complex from
his days as a page at NBC in Rockefeller Center, to hit song writer,
to game show producer, to reluctant recluse with the possible
intermittent stint as secret agent. Clooney steps in front of the camera
and anchors a big name supporting cast featuring Julia
Roberts and Drew Barrymore

This films two biggest drawbacks are that it suffers a severe loss
of momentum about three fourths of the way through and the question
of fact or fiction becomes rather obvious. It doesn't help
"Dangerous Mind" that it hits both these speed bumps at
just about the same time. This dark comedy/film noir/biopic is
innovative, quirky, satirical, and is recommended viewing for all
baby boomers who list "The Dating Game, "The Newlywed
Game, or "The Gong Show" as their guilty pleasures."
