Response
from Book Magazine - 7/8/2002
I always welcome criticism, finding
generally that it helps us improve the magazine. Some of the things
you loathed were quite popular with other readers; the Bhutan error,
however, is an inexcusable goof that I'm trying to determine the
cause of--my understanding is it may not have been present in
LeClair's original copy. In general, what we're trying to do with
BOOK is find the intersection between contemporary pop culture and
genuine enthusiasm for classic and contemporary literature. I hope
you'll find us more successful, and more to enjoy, in future issues.
With all best to your puppy."

Editor's Note - For correspondence from the
supposed editor of a supposed literary magazine, this response seems
fraught with sketchy grammar and poor wording, which is alarming
considering the brevity of the missive. "I hope
you'll find us more successful, and more to enjoy, in future issues."
does not resonate with heartfelt sentiment (or even passable
sentence construction or punctuation) and "with all best
to your puppy," is either some East coast phrase that we aren't
hip too, simply shoddy writing or, at the very least, atrocious
editing. We, the humble editors of a mostly unread webzine with no
overhead, think it's safe to say that Book, an obviously not so
literary magazine which assumedly has an actual payroll, faces a tenuous future.
